One Direction’s ‘History’ About ‘Closure’ After Zayn Malik Left, Says Liam Payne

Ah, so there IS a song about Zayn Malik on One Direction's new album -- their first without his soulful voice on every track. In a new interview, Liam Payne reveals that the song was inspired by 1D's desperate need to move on. Liam Payne, 22, may have just confirmed that "History" is all about Zayn Malik, also 22, leaving One Direction for good in March 2015. While talking about the group's new music, the British singer shared that the most recently released track off of their upcoming album, Made In The A.M., had a lot to do with closing a chapter and leaving it behind.

Reading Time: 2 minute

“Out of [‘History’] comes a little bit of closure for this chapter of One Direction,” Liam told EW in a new interview, happily explaining the reason behind the super fun new song. “More than anything, the song is about the way the fans and everyone have created this massive thing — One Direction — over the past five years.” So it’s not only an ode to Zayn and what once was, but also an ode of what’s to come for their ever growing fan base. How sweet is that?

In related news, Liam also revealed that it was his idea to bring in a group of fans for background music on the track. Unfortunately he couldn’t be there the day they recorded, but Niall Horan, 22, was more than happy to take the reigns and get the job done.

“It’s really great because obviously that song is mainly about the fans and what they’ve done; I think it was important that they were a part of it, to close the album,” Liam explained about having a handful of very lucky fans on the backtrack of the single.

Made In The A.M. hits iTunes in full on Friday, Nov. 13 and HollywoodLife.com can’t wait to hear it!
