While neither the Grey’s Anatomy alum nor her writer-producer boyfriend have released an official statement at this time, a source confirmed their split, Us Weekly reports in their Sept. 22 issue. “They are just in different places in their lives and it wasn’t working,” claims Us Weekly’s source. “Kate has been upset but trying to get over it.” The last time Kate and Chris walked the red carpet together as a couple was at the Chrysler John Varvatos 12th Annual Stuart House Benefit in L.A. on April 26.

The two first started dating in the summer of 2011, after Kate ended a year-long relationship with film executive Neil Young. Prior to that, Kate was also married to Alex Young, 44, — a production co-president at 20th Century Fox — from 2007 to 2011.
Though the Bad Judge star kept mostly mum about her relationship with Chris, she did joke about him having to put up with her cats during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in April, presumably not long before their split. “My boyfriend’s highly allergic and it’s ridiculous,” she joked at the time. “His tune changed once we were like, ‘Maybe there’s some sort of job here for these cats.’ And suddenly his tune started to change. Now, we are making an animated series called Cat Stories.”
Luckily, Kate is said to have an upcoming British project alongside Jessica Brown Findlay and Matthew Rhys to help keep her occupied. Still, we wish her and Chris all the best during this difficult time.
