Zayn is apparently “smitten” with the Burberry model, who has reportedly been flying to Los Angeles to spend time with him while he continues to work on his solo album. But while things between them seem to be moving pretty fast, the pair have actually been friends since their first meeting back in March, and reportedly hit it off right away. In a newly resurfaced interview with On Demand News at The Asian Awards back in April 2015, Neelam opened up about meeting Zayn — who was being honored with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music — for the first time, and why he was right to leave 1D when he did.
“Zayn’s a nice guy, I’m happy he’s being honored tonight and I think it will be a great night,” she told the reporter. When asked if she thought Zayn made the right decision in leaving the band, Neelam admitted that she respected his decision. “I can relate to him because we’ve both been thrown into the industry and I can only imagine how crazy it’s been for him. As long as he’s happy, I respect that. Whatever he does I’m sure he’ll be successful, he’s really talented and he’s a good guy.” Neelam also tweeted at him after the show saying, “Congratulations on your award tonight @zaynmalik, catch up again soon!”

Clearly, she sees a lot in Zayn. The two reportedly met after running into each other at a recording studio in London, where Zayn was working on his solo music with Naughty Boy, and Neelam was hanging out with her friends Krept & Konan, who were also doing some recording at the time. You might recall Zayn later did a little recording with the hip hop duo; maybe Neelam made that happen!
