We almost feel bad for the guy screaming his lungs out in the video — almost. That man and a partner tried to rob Monique and her two friends in Acailandia, Brazil, on Sept. 1, reports MMAFighting.com. They two muggers wanted Monique and her friends’ phones, but when she saw they were unarmed, the MMA fighter went into action.
“I was going to my jiu-jitsu training when they arrived on a motorcycle,” Monique told MMAFighting.com. Monique tried to hold onto her own phone, and when the robbers tried to escape, she “lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground!”
Amazing! Sadly, one of the thieves snatched her phone and ran away. The other one wasn’t so lucky. First, Monique wrapped her arm around his neck, from behind, in a rear-naked choke. She brought the would-be-mugger down to the ground. Monique then used her legs to lock in a triangle-choke, as seen in the video. After such a display, maybe she can be the one who challenges Ronda Rousey after her fight with Holly Holm?

It’s a bummer, but this isn’t the first time that Monique has been robbed. “I’ve been through this a few times before,” she told MMAFighting.com, “and it’s the second time I fought back. [Before] there were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back.”
While Monique is truly a badass for doing this, she realizes how extremely dangerous it is to fight back against robbers, even when they’re unarmed. “It’s a huge risk,” she said, “but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned.” So, don’t try this at home! Still, we’re glad that Monique and her friends are safe.
