It always sucks when a beloved Hollywood couple calls it quits, but this one is especially tough. Not only were Emma and Evan absolutely adorable together, but they made a great on-camera team during their time on American Horror Story. Thankfully, the pair will remain friends despite their split — and now HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVE details about why they parted ways.

Even though the official split was revealed on June 12, a source recently revealed EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com that Emma and Evan had been on the rocks for a few weeks prior to the announcement. From what our source shared, Emma had totally checked out of the relationship by mid-May 2015, and Evan decided to remain “oblivious” to their troubles until it was too late. Now, the couple are no more — and their engagement is definitely off.

Making things even more interesting, a HollywoodLife.com source witnessed Emma having a miserable time at the 2015 Governor’s Ball in New York City on Saturday, June 6. The source spotted Emma in the VIP lounge looking “bothered” during what should have been a fun outdoor concert, and that the actress and her friends were “engrossed” in a conversation that left her pretty shaken up. “They were kind of standing in a small circle,” the source shared. “[Emma] was definitely trying to fly under the radar.” Yikes.
