Ian Somerhalder: Go Green!

Ian, 35, has been working with the United Nations Environment Program to promote a greener environment.

“Now is the time to go greener by making choices that are good for the people and good for the planet, and we can do it by coming together as community — businesses, schools, individuals and organizations … by connecting our resources and our skills to our passion for a more sustainable resource, efficient way of living,” he said in a video posted on the site. “We can plant more trees, we can grow more kitchen gardens, we can think mor carefully about how the decisions we make that affect and impact our own and only beautiful planet Earth. Connect to go greener with Team Ian.”

Team Ian is currently in the lead — he’s up against ambassadors Gisele Bündchen, Don Cheadle, and Yaya Touré are all urging fans to contribute their efforts to “reduce waste and mitigate climate change counts.”

On June 5, Ian was designated a a UNEP Global Ambassador in Barbados! “In Parliament in Barbados about to walk into a room with heads of state and the United Nations Environment Program to make my designation speech as UNEP Goodwill Ambassador. Wow. So surreal… Thank you all for standing here today with me- your voice is so loud. Your compassion so powerful. Thank you- now let’s make so serious shit happen.
