Lily Tomlin Married Jane Wagner — Actress Weds Partner On NYE After 42 Years

While recapping her New Year’s Eve celebrations, Chicago Tribune gossip writer Liz Smith reported that Lily, 74, and Jane, 78, married in a low-key ceremony.

“IT WAS AN EVENTFUL NEW YEAR’S EVE,” Liz wrote. “I WAS Hobnobbing with the attractive Madeleine and her hubby, the gifted Andrew Lloyd Webber, in Barbados in a gorgeous mansion by the sea… And my longtime friends, Lily Tomlin and her love, the writer Jane Wagner, got married on the eve of 2014. … My wish is that their happiness will be as great as their combined talents.”

It looks like Liz’s wish has already come true — the couple are very “happy” after their nuptials, Lily’s rep tells the Huffington Post.

Lily Tomlin & Partner Jane Wagner Always Wanted To Marry

The news may not come as a shock to those who follow Lily and her work. The Admission star and Jane started contemplating marriage after the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was ruled unconstitutional in June, 2013.

“You don’t really need to get married, but marriage is awfully nice,” Lily told E! News in August, 2013. “Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference. They feel very very happy about it.”

“No rings, no bridal dresses,” she continued. “Maybe we’ll be dressed like chickens.” Wouldn’t that have been hilarious?

Lily and her partner met in March of 1971 and have been together ever since, according to Out magazine.

Congratulations to the happy couple. We wish them a lifetime of joy together!
