‘Baby Hope’ Anjelica Castillo’s Sister Speaks Out – Hollywood Life

‘Baby Hope’ Anjelica Castillo’s Sister Speaks Out After Identity Released

'Baby Hope's name, Anjelica Castillo, was finally revealed after decades of mystery, and her own adult sister found out after two decades of mystery that they were related. Lorena looks so much like her sister that she gives a spooky glance at what Anjelica would have grown up to look like had her young life not been tragically cut short. The girl only known as 'Baby Hope' for over 20 years was brutally killed in 1991. For the first time since the girl's murder, her sister, Laurencita “Lorena” Ramirez, 27, spoke out and revealed that not only did she not find out one of her sisters was murdered until she was 11 years old -- she only just learned on Oct. 8 that her sister was the girl called "Baby Hope."

‘Baby Hope’ Anjelica Castillo’s Sister Speaks Out

The identity of the girl only called “Baby Hope” was revealed on Oct. 8 after years of mystery — but even her very own sister only found out  about her relation to the case when the girl’s name — Anjelica Castillo — was released. After decades of the victim’s anonymity, DNA tests linked her to her family — and Lorena.

Lorena and her family immediately recognized the similar facial features between Anjelica and Lorena. “When my mom saw the drawing, she said Anjelica would’ve looked just like me if she were alive,” Lorena told The New York Post.

“It’s very painful. I have no joy right now,” Lorena told The Post. “I think about [Anjelica Castillo] all the time, and I wish I would have gotten the chance to meet her. She’s the sister I never met.”

Baby Hope was killed when she was just 4 years old. Lorena is a married mom herself and actually has a 4-year-old of her own, so the story hits even closer to home.

Baby Hope Mystery Has Answers

Anjelica’s dead, decomposed body was found in a dirty cooler in a Manhattan construction zone on July 23, 1991. Her body was unidentifiable and left no clues as to what happened to her. With no identifying information available, a funeral was held for “Baby Hope” in 1993, and still known as an anonymous girl until 2013, when a new DNA test linked her to her family.

Conrado Juarez, 52, was arrested for her murder — and he confessed to brutally raping and killing Anjelica, his cousin.
