The Boston bombing suspect allegedly threw into fits of rage against his wife, Katherine Russell. He would reportedly throw things at her often, including pieces of furniture. Katherine allegedly felt trapped in the relationship.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev Abuse & Violence Towards Katherine Russell

Close friends of Katherine, 24, revealed to Mail Online that Tamerlan was combative, angry and controlling.

A neighbor of Katherine and Tamerlan’s tells the site that she often heard the couple screaming at each other in the wee hours of the night. “It wasn’t enough to call the police,” Mary Silberman told Reuters. “It didn’t sound like anyone was in physical danger.” But it was certainly enough to keep her awake.

While Katherine has stayed mum since her husband’s death — except for a statement to the media, through her lawyers — she was spotted leaving her parents’ Rhode Island home on April 23 with a lawyer and three FBI investigators. It’s possible that Katherine has finally broken her silence, giving authorities more information on her late husband. She was spotted returning home four hours later.

Katherine Russell Releases Statement

Official statement from the law firm of Deluca and Weizenbaum on behalf of Katherine Russell:

“The injuries and loss of life – to people who came to celebrate a race and a holiday – has caused profound distress and sorrow to Katie and her family. The reports of involvement by her husband and brother-in-law came as an absolute shock to them all. As a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, Katie deeply mourns the pain and loss to innocent victims – students, law enforcement, families and our community. In the aftermath of this tragedy, she, her daughter and her family are trying to come to terms with these events. Thank you.”

Tamerlan’s Violent Past

In July 2009, Tamerlan was reportedly arrested for slapping an ex-girlfriend, according to court records. His ex was “crying hysterically” and called 911 to report that she was “beat up by her boyfriend,” Cambridge Police Officer Angela Pereira wrote in the arrest report. Tamerlan told police that his ex “was yelling at him because of another girl (presumably Katherine).” Tsarnaev stated at the time, “Yes, I slapped her.” He said that he struck the left side of her face. Eleven months later, Tamerlan married Katherine after convincing her to convert from Christianity to Islam.
