Vampire Diaries Recap: Elena Drinks Damon’s Blood & Alaric Returns – Hollywood Life

‘Vampire Diaries’ Recap: Damon Helps Ease Elena’s Blood Cravings

Elena went behind Stefan's back and developed a 'personal' connection to Damon. With her fangs firmly in place, Elena (Nina Dobrev) found herself tackling the most important aspect of undead life on the Oct. 18 episode of The Vampire Diaries: feeding! But unlike last week's season premiere, which clearly worked out in Stefan's (Paul Wesley) favor, both Salvatore brothers got a piece of Elena this week — or in Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) case, Elena also got a piece of him!

Stefan was determined to get Elena used to his trademarked bunny diet, and while all seemed to be going well at first — after snacking on a deer, the couple started going at it hard in the woods — Elena had some trouble keeping the animal blood down. As hot as their sex was shaping up to be, it’s never a good sign when it ends in puke.

Elena’s next move was very telling of her true feelings: She went to Damon for help, making absolutely certain that Stefan never found out. And Damon’s next move was telling of his feelings, as he pulled Elena into the bathroom at Mystic Grill and let her nom on his arm bloods. As much as I love the idea of Damon and Elena together, I have to admit this scene made me a little uncomfortable. Was it supposed to make me horny, or hungry? Either way, mission accomplished!

Needless to say, Stefan wasn’t thrilled when he found out about their little lunch date. Damon came clean after Pastor Young’s funeral, which got him an admittedly deserved punch in the face. Oh, and did I forget to mention Damon wasn’t the only guy Elena fed off this week? She also sucked a little Matt (Zach Roerig) blood during the funeral service, which I’m sure put a little wind in the sails of the good ship Mattlena. (I like the idea of them together, whatever.)

Meet The New Blood:

This week’s episode also introduced two crucial new characters: Connor (Todd Williams), the new vampire hunter in town, and April Young (Grace Phipps), daughter of the late — and friggin’ insane — Pastor Young.

April has known the Gilberts since they were kids, and I immediately noticed sparks flying when she and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) locked eyes at school. I kind of love April, and not just because of her “I don’t give a f**k” attitude towards her father’s death. She has the potential to become Jeremy’s first stable — aka human — girlfriend, and God knows that boy needs one.

Connor, on the other hand, does not get any of my friendship. In this episode alone, he stabbed April, shot Tyler — multiple times, and on two separate occasions — and got into an all-out brawl with Damon. Have we ever seen one single human cause this much trouble for Mystic Falls’ supernatural population? I’m pretty sure we haven’t, and just think: This was only his first day in town!

But the most intense part of this week’s episode didn’t revolve around a hot moment between Elena and one of the brothers, or even one of the multiple fight scenes. It was all about Damon’s painful cemetery monologue about grief and regret. Oh, and Alaric (Matt Davis). How loudly did you squeal when he showed up on the screen? Admit it, you squealed.

“Miss you too, buddy.” (Dead! I’m dead.)

And Everybody Else:

Though the episode mostly focused on the ever-sharpening love triangle, there were a few stand-out moments from the other residents of Mystic Falls:

— Still racked with guilt, Matt asked Jeremy if there was anything he could do for Elena, “short of giving her a ride.” (Because, you know, we’re apparently making jokes about that now.)

— Speaking of guilt, Bonnie (Kat Graham) is so miserable over her Grams’ “death” that she could barely leave her house. I think she was even more upset than she let on, because she told Stefan she didn’t even have time to see Jamie. (I know, I’d pretty much forgotten about him, too.)

— For the second week in a row, unfortunate circumstances got in the way of Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) sexy times. This week, a visit from Connor prompted Tyler to head downstairs — and get shot. (At least this time it wasn’t because he was Klaus in disguise!)

— When Jeremy and Matt bumped into Connor at Mystic Grill, Jeremy was the only bro who noticed Connor’s mysterious arm markings. What could that mean?!

Just when you thought vampire Elena was going to be all about Stefan, she went and surprised us all!

What did you think of this week’s episode? Will drinking Damon’s blood bring her closer to him? And why is Jeremy the only person who can see Connor’s tattoo? Drop me a comment with your thoughts and theories!
