Tyre Nichols’ Funeral: Photos — Tyre Nichols’ life was celebrated during a Feb. 1, 2023 funeral in Memphis, Tennessee. The 29-year-old died Jan. 10, three after a brutal altercation with cops put him in critical condition.

5 officers were fired and charged with 2nd-degree manslaughter on Jan. 17. Video of the incident was released on Jan. 28, prompting protests across the country. Several more firings of local firefighters and EMTs followed.

The funeral was a celebration of Tyre’s life, and not his end, however. Prominent activists and politicians were there to support Tyre’s family during the event at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church. The eulogy was given by Rev. Al Sharpton. Vice President Kamala Harris, seen here, attended with White House Director for the Office of Public Engagement, Keisha Lance Bottoms.

The families of other Black men and women killed by police were there in somber solidarity on the rainy Memphis day. Breonna Tayor’s mother Tamika Palmer and Philonise Floyd, the younger brother of George Floyd, also attended.

Tyre was a father and a son whose life was unjustly ended by police. In honor of his life and memory, here are photos from his funeral.
