The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye on February 16, 1990, in Scarborough, Ontario) has evolved from a mysterious R&B newcomer into one of the biggest global pop stars of the past decade. After anonymously uploading songs to YouTube in 2010, he broke out with his 2011 mixtapes — House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence — projects that helped redefine modern alternative R&B.

Since then, The Weeknd has delivered multiple multi-platinum albums, including Beauty Behind the Madness, Starboy, After Hours and Dawn FM. His 2020 smash “Blinding Lights” became one of the most successful songs in Billboard Hot 100 history, and he headlined the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show in 2021. In recent years, he launched the massive After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour, which expanded globally and became one of the highest-grossing tours of his career.

Beyond music, The Weeknd has stepped into film and television, co-creating and starring in HBO’s The Idol and contributing to various soundtrack projects.
