While a majority of seasons of ‘The Bachelor’ have ended the expected way — with one breakup and then an exciting proposal — several have taken a much different (and way more dramatic) route. After 23 seasons, there have been plenty finales that left fans with their jaws on the floor. Sometimes, the craziness happened during the final days of filming, and others, it happened after filming ended. We’ve seen dramatic confrontations on LIVE television during ‘After the Final Rose’ over the years, and cameras have even begun following the final couples AFTER filming ends, just in case a breakup happens in between filming and when the show airs. Keep clicking through the gallery to relive the seasons of ‘The Bachelor’ that ended quite shockingly — from Colton Underwood begging Cassie Randolph to take him back, to Arie Luyendyk Jr. changing his mind after just a few weeks, and more!

Peter Weber was blindsided when Madison Prewett dumped him on their last date ahead of the final rose ceremony. He went on to propose to his other final choice, Hannah Ann Sluss, and they got engaged. However, they broke up while the show was airing, as Peter realized he still had feelings for Madison. Peter and Madison briefly got together after the show ended, but it didn’t last more than a few days.

Cassie Randolph began having doubts about her relationship with Colton Underwood during hometown dates on season 23 of ‘The Bachelor.’ Her dad’s skepticism about the process made her have second thoughts. All of the second guessing led her to dump Colton and leave the show during their fantasy suite date. Colton was devastated, so he took matters into his own hands. He broke up with his other remaining women (Tayshia Adams and Hannah Godwin) on the spot, and chased Cassie down before she could leave for good. They wound up working things out, and decided to leave the show as a couple, but without the pressure of an engagement. Filming wrapped in the fall of 2018, and the two have been happily dating ever since!

Arie Luyendyk Jr. dumped Lauren Burnham and chose Becca Kufrin at the final rose ceremony on season 22 of ‘The Bachelor.’ Becca accepted his proposal, and things were great! However, when the show’s finale aired, it was revealed that the fairytale did not last. Arie began having second thoughts about choosing Becca over Lauren, and with Becca’s permission, he contacted Lauren to get some closure. The conversation made him realize that Lauren was who he wanted to be with. Cameras were present as Arie broke up with Becca, and their conversation was absolutely heartbreaking. Then, Arie went to Lauren’s home to win her back, and they started dating. He proposed on live television during ‘After the Final Rose.’ Arie and Lauren eventually got married and had a daughter together, while Becca became the Bachelorette and got engaged to Garrett Yrigoyen.

Brad Womack is the only Bachelor in the franchise’s history to not choose ANYONE at his final rose ceremony. He narrowed the women down to DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft, but rejected both of them in the finale. Brad is also the only person who’s been the Bachelor twice — he returned for season 15, and got engaged to Emily Maynard. However, they split shortly afterward.

After dumping Molly Malaney, Jason Mesnick proposed to Melissa Rycroft on his finale of ‘The Bachelor’ during season 13. Six weeks after filming, the trio filmed ‘After the Final Rose,’ and Melissa was watching backstage as Jason revealed to host, Chris Harrison, that he wanted to break up with her and pursue Molly instead. Jason eventually confronted Melissa on live television, and they broke up. Molly was in the hot seat next, and she admitted to still being in love with Jason. They agreed to “see where things [would] go”, and it worked in their favor — they got married in 2010 and have a daughter together

Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi got engaged on season 14 of ‘The Bachelor,’ and it was actually a few months AFTER the finale that things publicly fell apart. In July 2010, just four months after the show finished airing, ABC held a previously-recorded, special interview with Vienna and Jake — and things got UGLY. The two did not hold back from airing their grievances with one another. Vienna called Jake a “fame whore” and he told her he was “disgusted” with her. It was WILD, to say the least!

Ben Higgins did something that no other Bachelor had done before during the show’s 20th season — he told BOTH his finalists, Lauren Bushell and JoJo Fletcher, that he was in love with them. Just days later, he had to pick just ONE of them to be his future wife. He chose Lauren, which obviously left fan-favorite JoJo completely devastated.

Juan Pablo Galavis’ final rose ceremony began with him getting reamed out by Clare Crawley after he eliminated her. She spoke her mind before making her exit, while JP could do nothing but stare at her and use his infamous line: “Ok.” Then, after all that, he didn’t even get engaged to his first pick, Nikki Ferrell, although they did agree to pursue a relationship after the show.
