‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ Cast Then & Now: Demi Moore

‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ was one of those quintessential ’80s movies and featured so many of your favorite Brat Pack stars. The movie, directed by Joel Schumacher, was released on June 28, 1985. The film follows a group of close friends who just graduated from Georgetown University as they adjust to the highs and lows of adulthood. Tears are shed and hearts are broken in ‘St. Elmo’s Fire.’

One of the stars of ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ was none other than Demi Moore. Demi played Jules Van Patten, the party girl of the group. Her role in the film made her one of the key Brat Packers. Another one of her first notable roles was ‘Ghost’ in 1990. She earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. Her other films include ‘A Few Good Men,’ ‘Indecent Proposal,’ ‘Striptease,’ ‘G.I. Jane,’ ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle’ and more. She has continued to act in various TV and film roles. In 2020, she starred in the podcast ‘Dirty Diana.’

Demi has been married 3 times. She has 3 kids with Bruce Willis: Scout, Rumer, and Tallulah. She was married to Ashton Kutcher from 2005 to 2013. Her memoir, ‘Inside Out,’ was released in 2019.

Rob Lowe starred as bad boy Billy Hicks. He went on to star in several more films in the late ’80s, including ‘Masquerade’ and ‘Abou Last Night.’ Rob’s film career continued well through the 1990s and 2000s. He notably played Sam Seaborn on ‘The West Wing,’ Robert on ‘Brothers & Sisters,’ Chris Traeger on ‘Parks & Recreation,’ and more. Rob currently stars as Capt. Owen Strand on ‘9-1-1: Lone Star,’ which has been renewed for season 3.

Rob has been married to Sheryl Berkoff since 1991. They have two sons: John Owen and Matthew.

Ally Sheedy played Leslie Hunter, the woman at the center of the love triangle between Alec and Kevin. The same year as ‘St. Elmo’s Fire,’ she also starred with other Brat Packers in ‘The Breakfast Club.’ Her other notable movies include ‘High Art,’ ‘Welcome to the Rileys,’ and more. She won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for her performance in ‘High Art.’ Her latest role was a cameo in the 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse.

The actress married David Lansbury in 1992. They have a son, Beckett, who is a transgender man.

Emilio Estevez starred as Kirby Keger, the man who pined over a girl the entire movie. Like Ally and Judd, Emilio had also starred in ‘The Breakfast Club’ the same year. Another one of Emilio’s most famous roles was Gordon Bombay in ‘The Mighty Ducks’ movies starting in 1992. Emilio has directed a number of films, including ‘The War at Home,’ ‘Bobby,’ and ‘The Public.’ Emilio recently reprised the role of Gordon in the Disney+ series ‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.’

Emilio was briefly engaged to his ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ co-star Demi Moore. They broke up in 1986. He had two children with Carey Stalley. He married Paula Abdul in 1992, but they divorced in 1994.

Judd Nelson starred as the smarmy Alec Newbury in ‘St. Elmo’s Fire.’ The same year as ‘St. Elmo’s Fire,’ Judd also starred in ‘The Breakfast Club’ with several Brat Packers. After 1985, Judd was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in the 1987 TV film ‘Billionaire Boys Club.’ He starred in the series ‘Suddenly Susan; from 1996 to 1999 and had memorable roles in ‘Nikita,’ ‘Empire,’ and more. He has also voiced multiple roles in animated ‘Transformers’ movies. Judd’s most recent role was in the Lifetime movie ‘Girl in the Basement.’

Andrew McCarthy played the self-deprecating writer Kevin who was hopelessly in love with his best friend Leslie in ‘St. Elmo’s Fire.’ A year after ‘St. Elmo’s Fire,’ Andrew played the swoonworthy Blane in ‘Pretty In Pink.’ He also appeared in other memorable ’80s movies like ‘Weekend at Bernie’s and ‘Mannequin.’ In addition to his acting roles, Andrew has also become a director. He’s directed episodes of ‘The Blacklist,’ ‘Orange Is The New Black,’ and more. His most recent role was in the final season of ’13 Reasons Why.’ His memoir, ‘Brat: An ’80s Story,’ is out now.

The actor married his college sweetheart Carol Schneider in 1999. They have a son together named Sam. Andrew and Carol divorced in 2005. Andrew married Dolores Rice in 2011. They have two kids together.

Mare earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in ‘Georgia.’ Mare also had roles in 4 seasons of ‘American Horror Story’ and played Cole’s mom on ‘The Affair.’ She has been nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in ‘Casa Valentina.’ Her recent roles include the TV series ‘The Outsider’ and the film ‘News of the World.’

Mare has been married three times. She has 5 children. As of 2020, she is dating ‘E.R.’ alum Anthony Edwards.

Andie MacDowell starred as Dale Biberman, the woman Kirby was in love with. ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ was only Andie’s second movie role. Just a few years later, Andie starred in ‘Sex, Lies, and Videotape’ and earned a Golden Globe nomination. She received subsequent Golden Globe nominations for her roles in ‘Green Card’ and ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral.’ Andie recently starred in the films ‘Ready or Not’ and ‘Magic Mike XXL.’ She is set to star in the upcoming series ‘Maid.’

Andie married Paul Qualley in 1986, and they divorced in 1999. They have two children, Rainey and Margaret. She married Rhett Hartzog in 2001 and divorced him in 2004.
