The Spice Girls became a worldwide sensation in 1996 when the British girl group’s breakthrough single ‘Wannabe’ and it’s girl power driven video took the the music world by storm. The five members each had a peronsa, with Melanie Brown as Scary Spice, Melanie Chisholm as Sporty Spice, Emma Bunton as Baby Spice, Victoria Adams as Posh Spice and Geri Halliwell as Ginger Spice. Mel B. and Geri took primary vocal duties, and the group was known for their lively dance routines and iconic music videos. They released their debut album ‘Spice’ in Nov. of 2016 after the success of singles ‘Wannabe,’ ‘Say You’ll Be There’ and ‘2 Become 1.’ It eventually was certified 10 times platinum. Geri left the band in 1998 and the group went on hiatus in 2000. They reunited for tours in 2007-8, 2012 and 2019, with Victoria bowing out of the latter as she’s focused on her fashion label and her career as a Spice Girl is long in her past.
