Paris is undoubtedly one of the world’s fashion capitals. From Louis Vuitton to Chanel, dozens of luxurious fashion designers have roots in the ancient city, and French fashion seems to flourish daily. Sonia Rykiel is one of France’s most legendary designers, and she is celebrated every day in the fashion industry. Born in 1930, Rykiel was the creator of the ‘Poor Boy Sweater’, a style she created when she was pregnant in 1962 and couldn’t find something to wear to suit her baby bump. Talk about legendary!
From the birth of the Poor Boy Sweater, Sonia continued to invent numerous other fashion techniques, and expanded her brand all over the world. Sadly, as she aged into her 80’s Sonia developed Parkinson’s disease, which led her to her death in such as here, where she walked at her own show in Paris in 2002.
