The Vampire Diaries star and the Olympian were once considered one of Hollywood’s cutest couples.

Nina Dobrev and Shaun White first sparked romance rumors in early 2020 during the COVID-19 quarantine, and while they initially kept things low-key, they confirmed their relationship on a vacation to Mexico where they were spotted enjoying beach days and packing on the PDA.

After five years together, the pair announced their engagement in 2024, when White proposed with a 5-carat diamond ring under an arch of white roses at the Golden Swan restaurant in New York City. At the time, Nina shared the news on Instagram with the cheeky caption: “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé.”

However, by 2025 the relationship had apparently run its course. Fans noticed that Nina unpinned her engagement post from Instagram, and on September 7, she walked the red carpet at the Eternity premiere during the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival without her diamond ring. According to People, a source close to the couple confirmed the news, saying, “It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another.”
