Robert Redford is one of the most beloved actors of all time. Beginning his career on the stage in the 1950s, the late filmmaker made his television debut in 1960 with a small role in a one-off episode of Maverick. After that, he was cast in more TV shows, including a 1962 appearance on the classic anthology series The Twilight Zone. Perhaps one of his biggest career breaks came at the end of the decade though when he was cast in Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid, as the Sundance Kid. After that, he became a leading man in a number of movies throughout the 1970s, like playing Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby (1974), and Bob Woodward in All The President’s Men.
Robert also worked behind the camera as a director and producer. Most notably, he was awarded an Oscar in 1981 for Best Director for his film Ordinary People. He also received nods for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1974 for The Sting and his 1994 film, Quiz Show, received a Best Picture nomination.
