The pride of Compton has come a long way. Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, better known as YG, has experienced some of the highest highs and some of the lowest lows. The Compton, California native wound up behind bars at an early age over a botched home invasion charge. But, his life would take a turn for the better thanks to his involved in the ‘jerkin’ movement,’ a dance craze that was popular among house parties. YG’s role in the phenomenon got him signed to Def Jam in 2009, and he dropped his debut, My Krazy Life, in 2014. Since then, he’s become a hip-hop heavyweight, one that repped his hometown hard. YG was a close friend and collaborator with the late Nipsey Hussle (and was a pallbearer at his public memorial.) As of 2019, YG had dropped four studio albums, including 4Real 4Real. He has also worked with fellow rappers like Jeezy, Rich Homie Quan, and Drake.
