Oscars’ Best Moments 2023: Photos — The 95th annual Oscars are here, and this year’s show had movie lovers everywhere holding their breath. Would there be another shocker like the Will Smith/Chris Rock slap of 2022? Or perhaps an envelope mishap, like the Moonlight/La La Land debacle of 2017?

Luckily, the Academy had a veteran taking the reigns at LA’s Dolby Theater. Jimmy Kimmel hosted Sunday’s awards, marking his third time as the Oscars’ emcee. And any anxiety about the 2023 Oscars disappeared the moment the late-night host started his monologue.

Jimmy made his entrance riding in the jumpseat behind Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick. Arriving on stage to resounding applause, the funnyman kicked off the show with a congratulations to the star-packed crowd. From there, the jokes kept coming, skewering everything from Hollywood’s Ozempic craze to Nicole Kidman’s iconic AMC ad spot, his good friend Steven Spielberg and the ill-fated Batgirl movie.

Jamie Lee Curtis Wins Best Supporting Actress — Jamie Curtis earned her very first Academy Award, taking home the trophy for playing IRS agent Deirdre Beaubeirdre Everything Everywhere All At Once. She gave a shout out to the “hundreds” of people who made the movie happen. “We just won as Oscar,” she rejoiced. Then, paying tribute to late parents Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, she looked skyward and wept, “I just won an Oscar.”

In Memoriam

In Memoriam — Lenny Kravitz paid tribute to the filmmakers and movie stars we lost this year with a piano version of his song “Calling All Angels.” His performance was proceeded by a touching introduction by John Travolta.

The Grease crooner honored late co-star Olivia Newton-John and peers, saying, “They’ve touched our hearts, they’ve made us smile, and became dear friends, who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to.”
