‘Night Court’ is back with a new cast, so let’s look at the show that started it all. See where the cast of the original ‘Night Court’ is, right here.

Night Court was one of the wackiest shows on TV, and now it’s getting the reboot treatment. The original sitcom premiered on January 4, 1984, and boy, did fans love it. Following the antics of judge Harry T. Stone and his colleagues at a Manhattan night court, the show ran for 193 episodes over nine seasons.

Harry Anderson was the star of the show. As unorthodox young Judge Stone, he had plenty of tricks up his sleeve – literally and figuratively. Judge Stone moonlighted as a magician — one of Anderson’s other passions. He would lead the series until its finale in 1992.

After Night Court, Harry starred in the sitcom Dave’s World (1993-1997). His last project was the 2014 Christian film, A Matter of Faith. The star died on April 16, 2018, at 65 years old, but is remembered by fans everywhere.

The new generation of Night Court stars Melissa Rauch as Judge Abby Stone, Harry’s daughter. It also features fresh faces India de Beaufort, Kapil Talwalkar, and Lacretta, along with Night Court OG John Larroquette.

John Larroquette

John Larroquette played the lechy PM prosecutor Daniel R. “Dan” Fielding. During the show, it seemed like he’d do basically anything for a date. Now, back in the role for the 2023 reboot, fans will get to see if he’s cleaned up his act at all. One hint he may have? Switching from a cold-hearted prosecutor to a public defender.

John was a stand-out on the show, earning four consecutive Primetime Emmys for the part. Prior to Night Court, he starred in the military drama Baa Baa Black Sheep. Following his primetime fame, he was given his own sitcom, The John Larroquette Show from 1993 to 1996. John would go on to star in the legal dramas The Practice (1997-2002) and Boston Legal (2004–2008). He also appeared on The Librarians from 2014 to 2018.

Markie Post

Markie Post played public defender Christine Sullivan on the show. Though she appears in the second episode, Markie didn’t become a regular until season 3. The bright-eyed character tended to be too honest, and sometimes a bit gullible, but always charming. She loved the British royal family, and over the seasons, expressed romantic interest in Judge Harry, while constantly rebuffing the advances of Dan Fielding.

When Night Court premiered, Markie was still on ABC’s The Fall Guy, which ran from 1982 to 1985. Following the series, she’d star in the sitcom Hearts Afire from 1992 to 1995, and appeared as a regular character on  Chicago P.D. from seasons 2 to 4. Markie passed away on August 7, 2021 in her LA home after a four-year battle with cancer. She was 70.

Marsha Warfield

Marsha Warfield was a late addition to Night Court, but as Officer Roz Russell she ended up being one of the show’s most beloved bailiffs. The no-nonsense officer was sweet but if you get on her bad side, and you might have to deal with one of her cutting jabs.

Marsha had quite the comic pedigree before Night Court. She won the San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 1979 and was a writer on the short-lived but unforgettable 1983 series, The Richard Pryor Show. Following Night Court, she had a ten-month run as the host of The Marsha Warfield Show for 10 months (1990–1991). She’s continued to work on screen, while also working as a stand-up comedian.

Richard Moll

Richard Moll was the first bailiff in the Night Court bunch, playing the character Nostradamus “Bull” Shannon. Although initially played as just dim-witted muscle, the gruff officer was actually quite kind and lovable — in addition to boasting an IQ of 181.

The UC Berkeley alum is best known for Night Court, but he’s also dabbled in voice acting. Richard voiced Harvey Dent / Two-Face in Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures.

Ellen Foley played public defender/potential love interest Billie Young in season 2 of Night Court. Before the show, she was best known as a singer, particularly her collaborations with Meat Loaf. She was also a theater talent, originating the role of The Witch in Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, before Bernadette Peters debuted the role on Broadway.

Key movie appearances include Hair (1979), Fatal Attraction (1987), Married to the Mob (1988) and Cocktail (1988). She was in the short-lived 1977 series 3 Girls 3, co-starring with Debbie Allen and Mimi Kennedy. Ellen shares her talents with the world as a voice teacher at The Paul Green School of Rock Music in New York.

Charles Robinson

Charles Robinson
Warner Bros. Television / Courte

Charles Robinson was Vietnam War vet/court clerk Macintosh “Mac” Robinson from seasons 2 to 9. Though stern, he has a hidden soft side. At the end of the show, his character finally followed his dream of going to film school.

After Night Court wrapped, Charles starred in the sitcome Love & War from 1992 to 1995. He had roles in Home Improvement, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Touched by an Angel, House, The Bernie Mac Show, My Wife and Kids, Soul Food, Charmed, Hart of Dixie, How I Met Your Mother, and My Name Is Earl. Sadly, the star died July 11, 2021 at 75 after a long battle with cancer.

Karen Austin played the original court clerk, Lana Wagner, during season one of Night Court. She was briefly Harry’s love interest, before the end of her run on the show in 1985. She’s laid low since, but did appear in the movies Summer Rental (1985), Jagged Edge (1985), and The Ladies Club (1986).

Paula Kelly played public defender Liz Williams in season one of Night Court. The singer-dancer-choreographer-actress went on to appear on sitcoms like Sanford and Son, Kojak, Golden Girls, and Good Times. Her key film roles include Sweet Charity, Soylent Green, The Andromeda Strain, Lost in the Stars, Jo Jo Dancer, and Once Upon a Time…When We Were Colored. Paula died on February 8, 2020, of heart failure. She was 77.

Florence Halop

Florence Halop’s character Florence “Flo” Kleiner was a chain-smoking, hard-living lady in her golden years. Her fearless character only was in one season of the show. Sadly, she died shortly after season three in Jul. of 1986.
