My Cousin Vinny: Where Are They Now? — Not from around here, are ya? ‘My Cousin Vinny’ came out 30 years ago on Mar. 13, 1992, giving the world one of the wonkiest fish-out-of-water comedies in movie history. ‘My Cousin Vinny’ stars Joe Pesci as Vincent Gambini, a New York lawyer who finds himself defending his cousin from a wrongful murder case down in Alabama. The problem: he just passed the bar after his 6th attempt AND it’s his first trial ever.

‘My Cousin Vinny’ poked fun at both city slickers and rural life, along with the absurdity of the criminal justice system. The movie was a critical and commercial success, earning $64.1 million at box offices along with a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Maria Tomei, who played Vinny’s sassy girlfriend Mona Lisa in the movie.

Joe Pesci

Already known for ‘Raging Bull’ and ‘Goodfellas’ when he stepped into the role, Joe was the perfect guy for the fast-talking, sharp-dressing Vinny. He announced his retirement from acting in 1999, but has appeared in several films since, most recently in ‘The Irishman’ in 2019.

Marisa Tomei

Maria Tomei’s character Mona Lisa knew how to rev engines, from her amazing NYC style to her knack for auto knowledge. Marisa surprised many when she won Best Supporting Actress for her role that year that the Oscars. She received two additional Academy Award nominations for 2001’s ‘In the Bedroom’ and 2008’s ‘The Wrestler’. Most recently, Marisa has appeared as Aunt May in the MCU Spider-Man films.

Ralph Macchio

The ‘Karate Kid’ was a bit older when he played wise-cracking tuna thief Bill Gambini in ‘Vinny’. The 80s star largely laid low during the 90s but returned to the screen in 2018 as an all-grown-up version of his character Daniel LaRusso.

Mitchell Whitfield

Mitchell Whitfield was Bill’s unknowing “accomplice” in ‘My Cousin Vinny’. He beat some stiff competition for the part, which ‘Rolling Stone’ claims he beat Will Smith and Ben Stiller for. He’s also remembered for playing Rachel’s ex Dr. Barry Farber on ‘Friends’ and is the voice behind Donatello in the 2007 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake, ‘TMNT’.

Bruce McGill

Bruce McGill and his iconic mustache played Sheriff Dean Farley in ‘My Cousin Vinny’. The Texas-born actor is a regular face, appearing on the big screen in ‘Animal House’, ‘Timecop’, and ‘Shallow Hal’, among others. His TV roles include Jack Dalton on the original 1980s ‘MacGyver ‘and Det. Vince Korsak on ‘Rizzoli & Isles’. Most recently, he’s appeared on ‘Reacher’.

Lane Smith

Lane Smith — Lane Smith (left) played district attorney Jim Trotter III in the movie, Vinny’s straight-laced courtroom challenger. He’s also known for his part as Coach Reilly in ‘The Mighty Ducks’. He continued his acting career until he passed away from ALS in 2005.

Fred Gwynne

Fred Gwynne — Fred Gwynne played the dour Judge Haller in the 1992 flick. It was the actor’s last time on screen, passing away in July, 1993. He also appeared in the 1960s sitcoms ‘Car 54 and ‘Where Are You?’, as well as his later film roles in ‘The Cotton Club’ and ‘Pet Sematary’.
