‘My 600-Lb. Life’ is a reality TV show on TLC that debuted in 2012. Each new season follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals and their respective journeys to try and lose weight and begin a healthier, happier lifestyle. The patients are placed under the care of physician Dr. Younan Nowzaradan — known on the show as “Dr. Now.”
Each new season begins with the individuals weighing in at 600 lbs. The rest of the season follows their journey to curb bad habits and begin the process of losing weight. Once they have shown progress, they are often offered procedures to help further their weight loss journey along, including gastric bypass surgery. For eight seasons, the show chronicled the lives of the people on the show and over the course of the series documented the unfortunate circumstances and tragedy behind each person. A number of individuals unfortunately lost their lives either during filming or after production had wrapped. But with each new season is renewed hope that they will gain back their health and livelihood. To see more images from TLC’s ‘My 600 lb. Life,’ check out the rest of the gallery.
