Michelle Kwan: See Photos Of The Olympic Figure Skater & New Mom — Ice queen! Michelle Kwan became one of America’s sweethearts in the late 90s, when she dominated the figure skating world. She’s won two Olympic medals, the silver in 1998, and the bronze in 2002. She’s also a five-time World Champion, nine-time US Champion, and currently boasts the titles of most decorated figure skater in U.S. history.

Michelle enjoyed more than a few sponsorship deals after shooting to fame with figure skating. She appeared in TV show specials and commercials, with endorsement contracts with Starbucks, United Airlines, Coca-Cola, Minute Maid, and more. Michelle also worked as a surrogate to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Michelle has been married once, to American Coast Guard Lietunenant Clay Pell from 2013 to 2017. In January 2022, Michelle proudly announced the birth of her first child, a daughter she named Kalista Belle Kwan.

Michelle announced the arrival of her first child on Jan. 6, 2022 with a joyous Instagram of her baby. In the caption, she told followers, “I’m overjoyed and tears of happiness are streaming down my face as I share the news of the arrival of Kalista Belle Kwan!”

“I’ve always wanted to be a mom and, to me, she’s a perfect miracle. I had a hard time picturing what she might look like yet it seems like she’s been in my life forever. This has been a challenging journey to motherhood (not to mention a very long labor!!!) and I’m glad I never gave up.”

Michelle looked back at her very first Olympics ahead of the 2020 Toyko Games in Jun. 2021. Remembering the events with People magazine, she told future athletes to take everything in.

“Everything is coming at one moment — and it’s this time that you’ve been thinking about, not just for the last four years, but your entire life, it seems. And it’s all happening,” she said. “You just kind of countdown, countdown, countdown until it actually happens. So, I tell the athletes: It goes by so fast, so enjoy every second of it.”

At the time, she brushed off her injury in an interview with the Associated Press in Jan. 1998, saying, “The pain lingers a few minutes, but I can deal with it.”

She would go on to earn a silver medal at the 1998 games in Nagano, Japan.
