For over two decades, one of the biggest bands in rock has been Mastodon. See photos of the award-winning metal legends.

Mastodon

Mastodon — Mammoth in scale of might and metal, the band Mastodon has been stomping throughout the metal world since their formation in 2000. Troy Sanders (bass/vocals), Brann Dailor (drums/vocals) Brent Hinds (lead guitar/vocals), and Bill Kelliher (rhythm guitar/backing vocals, not pictured) have become one of the most respected bands with albums like ‘Leviathan,’ ‘Crack the Skye,’ ‘Blood Mountain,’ and their 2021 release, ‘Hushed and Grim.’ Commonly associated with the sludge metal genre – which incorporates elements of hardcore punk and doom/stoner metal – Mastodon’s sound has woven in southern rock, progressive metal, blues trash, and thrash.

The band is also a Grammy-nominated group, first scoring a Best Metal Performance nod in 2007 for ‘Colony of Birchmen.’ They would win in 2018, when ‘Sultan’s Curse’ took home the Best Metal Performance (the album, ‘Emperor of Sand,’ was nominated for Best Rock Album’). The band also has been celebrated by their peers, taking home multiple Kerrang!, Metal Storm, and Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards.
