Two-time Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Magic Johnson played point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers for 13 seasons, during which he nabbed the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award three times and the league’s All-Star MVP honor twice. But those trophies barely cover the many athletic accolades Johnson has acquired throughout his career, which include nine nominations for the All-NBA First Team. Magic even boasts an Olympic gold medal, which he won with his U.S. Olympic team (“The Dream Team”) in 1992. Johnson was drafted into the NBA in 1979, and after three retirements, he officially threw in the towel in the summer of 1996. He initially retired in November of 1991 after testing positive for HIV, and has been an advocate for the disease ever since. Although he stepped off the court in the ’90s, Magic was named the president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers years later in February of 2017. He resigned from the job in April 2019.
