Gustav Elijah Åhr, more popularly known by his stage name Lil Peep, was an American rapper, singer, songwriter and model.
As an artist, he helped pioneer a genre of music called emo rap, which is a fusion genre of hip hop and emo that primarily became popular on SoundCloud in the mid-late 2010s.
Lil Peep started off his career releasing music on SoundCloud until he was eventually signed to Columbia Records. Soon enough, he dropped his debut album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1, which peaked at number 38 on the Billboard 200. One year later, he dropped his second album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2, which debuted at number four on the Billboard 200.
Sadly, his career came to an end when he was found dead on his tour bus just 14 days after his 21st birthday. His cause of death was an overdose. The rapper had a history of substance abuse, which was primarily due to his mental health, including depression and bipolar disorder.
