King Princess — Pics — Hail the new king of pop: King Princess! Brooklyn-born King Princess (aka Mikaela Straus) has been surrounded by music, as she’s the daughter of recording engineer Oliver H. Straus. She spent much of her childhood in the studio with her father, learning how to play several instruments – including the bass, guitar, piano, and drums. She also picked up insights into music production and the music industry, which resulted in her taking meeting about a potential recording contract when she was 11 years old. Instead, she finished her high school career before enrolling at the USC Thorton School of Music. After a year, she dropped out to pursue music fulltime. Around 2018, she released a handful of songs onto SoundCloud, including the track that would be her breakout hit, ‘1950.’ The music found its way to Mark Sonson. He signed her to Zelig Records, and from there, her career blew up. Harry Styles tweeted a lyric from her debut, which continued to boost her rise. In October 2019, she released her debut album, Trash Queen.
