Kehlani is an American singer and songwriter who first gained attention as a teenager in the group Poplyfe. Originally aspiring to be a dancer, Kehlani shifted her focus to music after a knee injury in high school. She joined Poplyfe in 2009, and the group finished in fourth place on America’s Got Talent in 2011.

After leaving the group, Kehlani faced a difficult period before releasing music independently. In 2014, she shared a song on SoundCloud that caught the attention of Nick Cannon, who helped her secure studio time in Los Angeles. That same year, she released her debut mixtape Cloud 19, followed by You Should Be Here in 2015, which earned a Grammy nomination. Kehlani has since become one of R&B’s defining voices, releasing albums like SweetSexySavage (2017), It Was Good Until It Wasn’t (2020), Blue Water Road (2022), Crash (2024), and her self-titled album Kehlani (2026). The latest project arrived alongside her 31st birthday and follows a major career milestone year that included her first Grammy wins.

She is also a mother to her daughter, Adeya Nomi, whom she welcomed in March 2019 with Javaughn Young-White.
