Jack Bruno — Exclusive Portraits — A rapper. A rock star. A punk rocker. Jack Bruno is all of these things. Coming from the punk rock world, this former Raw Fabric frontman reinvented his sound without losing the attitude. Now as a rapper, Jack Bruno is bridging the gap between punk and rap in new and interesting ways. He spoke with HollywoodLife while stopping by our studios before the release of his new song and video, “Someday (Before U Get Bored).” During the conversation, Jack spoke about what benefits punk brings to hip-hop (and vice-versa), how he was inspired to repurpose a classic Strokes song for his new single, and how he wants to do something new with his music. “Nobody wants another boring SoundCloud rapper that’s talking about doing bars and nothing. Nobody wants to hear like another watered-down alternative band that’s on the radio nowadays. I like to just push both of those borders, you know?”

All the famous ones are more sad, you know? I’m not really. I go through sad times, but I don’t like to stay in them.”

Jack Bruno on The Sharks — “It’s a band that opened for this hardcore band that I liked in 2010 called Gallows,” he tells HollywoodLife. “People remember Gallows, but The Sharks were more melodic. They had this one song that was just like every time I heard it gave me the same feeling that ‘Someday’ does. When I hear those chords, it makes you feel something.”

Jack Bruno On Creating ‘Someday (Before U Get Bored)’ — “I was taking just little parts of that [song] and running with it,” he tells HollywoodLife. “There’s a whole album in the works. I put out two mixed tapes last year and they’re more hip-hop and they’re more like ‘get in the studio and just make a mixtape.’ So with this one, as soon as I finished ‘Someday,’ I realized that this is on a different level. This is the next level. This is better songwriting.”

Jack Bruno Is A Perfect Angel — “[‘Someday (Before U Get Bored)’] has more of myself in the music than the last stuff and I wanted to keep the old stuff out there because I have people that really like it,” Jack Bruno tells HollywoodLife. “This is the first single that I’m releasing that’s me all the way. And it’s not just me being funny in the studio, it’s ‘here’s a f-cking look into my life.’ It set the bar higher. With this album coming, it’s so personal and it’s so real. I’m practically naming names in my life.”

Jack Bruno Looks To The Future — “There’re little differences [between hip-hop and punk],” says Jack Bruno. “Sometimes, fans of both music can be really harsh because people really take them seriously. I felt more like community in hip-hop, I think what they have going on. That’s a one up on the punk world. People want to collaborate a little bit more and get less carried away in ideals. At the end of the day we’re making music.”
