Take a look back at Guy Fieri’s journey from budding chef to one of television’s most recognizable food personalities in photos.
Guy Fieri (born Guy Ramsay Ferry on January 22, 1968, in Columbus, Ohio) is an American restaurateur, author, and television personality. He grew up in Ferndale, California, and began his love for food by selling pretzels from his “Awesome Pretzel” cart to finance a foreign-exchange trip to France. While overseas, Guy studied cuisine; when he returned, he worked at California’s Red Lion Inn before attending college in Las Vegas.
After earning a degree in hotel management, Guy worked for Stouffer’s and began developing restaurant concepts of his own. In 1996, he and business partner Steve Gruber opened Johnny Garlic’s, a California-style pasta grill that became a successful chain. His career skyrocketed after he won Season 2 of The Next Food Network Star in 2006, which led to his breakout show, Guy’s Big Bite.
He became a household name with the debut of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2007 — now one of the Food Network’s longest-running hits — and has since expanded his TV empire with shows like Guy’s Grocery Games and other specials. In 2025, Fieri made headlines after suffering a serious on-set injury while filming his new series, Flavor Town Food Fight, which temporarily sidelined him and required surgery. Even during recovery, production continued with adjustments, and Fieri remained hands-on with his projects. He also expanded his brand into retail this year through a national convenience-store partnership featuring Flavortown-inspired menu items, and returned to TV with a holiday spin-off special of his popular competition franchise.
The Ohio native has been married to his wife, Lori Fieri, since 1995, and the couple shares two sons, Hunter and Ryder.
