Dr. Dre: Pics — It will be a shame if anyone ever forgets about Dr. Dre. Born Andre Romelle Young in Feb. 18, 1965 in Compton, California, he would go on to become synonymous with hip hop. After first getting his start with the World Class Wreckin’ Cru, Dre earned his spot in the history of music after teaming up with Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren, DJ Yella and Arabian Prince to form N.W.A. ‘Straight Outta Compton, the band’s 1988 debut studio album, is a landmark recording in the rap genre. Following the end of N.W.A., Dre would venture out a solo artist, developing his strength as a producer and rapper. His work on Death Row Records pioneered the sound of West Coast rap int he early 1990s, and Dre’s debut solo album ‘The Chronic’ is considered by many to be the best rap album of all time. In that time, Dre helped usher in a new voice on the scene, rapper Snoop Dogg. In 1995, he worked with 2Pac on the massively successful hit, ‘California Love.’ He soon left Death Row, and continued to work as a producer and mentor (most notably, helping the launch the career of Eminem.) In 1999, he released ‘2001.’ Though there was a rumored third album (‘Detox’), it was at this time that Dre focused less on the mic and more on behind the scenes as a producer, record executive, and entrepreneur.
