‘David Makes Man’ premieres Aug. 14 on OWN. The new show centers on a 14-year-old prodigy from the projects who is haunted by the death of his closest friend and relied on by his hardworking mother to find a way out of poverty. He must choose between the streets that raised him or the higher education that may offer him a way out. The series, from Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney, is set in South Florida. The lyrical drama is inspired by events in McCraney’s own life. ‘David Makes Man’ stars Akili McDowell, Nathaniel Logan McIntyre, Alana Arenas, Travis Coles, Phylicia Rashad, and more. There will also be a number of guest stars over the course of the season. Oprah Winfrey and Michael B. Jordan serve as executive producers. The series will air Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on OWN.
