He’s considered by many to be the greatest player to ever set foot on the pitch. Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, born in Madeira, Portugal, has been a soccer/football sensation ever since he learned how to dribble the ball. As of 2020, he has won 29 trophies in his career, including five Ballons d’Or, four European Golden Shoes, six league titles, five UEFA Champion League titles, one UEFA European Championship, and one UEFA Nations League title. As a prolific scorer, Ronaldo holds the records for most goals scored in the UEFA Champions League, and the joint-most goals scored in the UEFA European Championship. He’s one of the few recorded players to have over 1,000 professional career appearances and as many goals.
He began his senior club career playing for Sporting CP before signing with Manchester United in 2003. After winning the FA cup in his first season, he helped Manchester United win three successive Premiere League titles, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA World Cup. He ultimately was sold in the then-most expensive association football transfer when he signed with Real Madrid for €94 million (£80 million) in 2009. He would stay with the club until 2018, when he was transferred to Juventus for €100 million (£88 million).
