Cate Blanchett has remained one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed performers for decades. Born on May 14, 1969, in Melbourne, Australia, the two-time Oscar winner first trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art before launching her career on Australian stages and television. She rose to international fame after starring as Queen Elizabeth I in Elizabeth, earning her first Academy Award nomination and establishing herself as one of the industry’s top dramatic actresses.

From there, Cate built one of the most respected careers in film, appearing as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings and later reprising the role in The Hobbit movies. She won Academy Awards for The Aviator and Blue Jasmine, while also earning nominations for acclaimed films like Carol and Tár. In recent years, Cate continued balancing prestige dramas, theater, and major productions, starring in Steven Soderbergh’s 2025 thriller Black Bag and making a surprise cameo in season 3 of Squid Game. She is also set to star in the upcoming Martha Stewart biopic Good Thing and return as Valka in Universal’s live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2 remake.

Beyond film, Cate has remained deeply connected to theater and previously served as co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company alongside her husband, playwright Andrew Upton. In 2026, it was also announced that she would return to the stage in Benedict Andrews’ production of Electra/Persona at London’s National Theatre.
