is one of the pioneer transgender stars of Hollywood. Starting her career performing at NYC nightclubs, Candis officially came out as transgender in 1996. Though she had parts in many high-profile shows, her big break came in 2007, when she landed the starring role of transgender mistress Carmelita on ABC’s drama, Dirty Sexy Money, which also starred Peter Krause, Donald Sutherland, and Lucy Lui.
More recently, Candis has been a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Grey’s Anatomy, and I Am Cait, the reality show that followed the life of Cailtyn Jenner after she transitioned. Candis also starred in the Netflix documentary Disclosure: Trans Lives On Screen, which gives in-depth look at Hollywood’s depiction of transgender people.
