He’ll bring you to your Sha-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-knees! Axl Rose — born William Bruce Rose Jr. — co-founded the iconic rock band Guns N’ Roses in 1985 after moving from Indiana to Los Angeles in the early 80s. They found success immediately, with their 1987 debut album ‘Appetite for Destruction’ selling over 30 million copies worldwide. It spawned the smash hits ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and ‘Sweet Child of Mine,’ and the band was helped by their videos getting in heavy rotation at MTV.
After putting out the ‘G N’ R Lies’ EP in 1988 (which included their now classic track, ‘Patience’) the band then spent most of 1990 and 1991 in the studio to produce the follow up album, which resulted in the twin albums ‘Use Your Illusion I’ and ‘Use Your Illusion II.’ While they didn’t produce the same level of hit singles, the combined albums sold 35 million copies. The band then went on a long hiatus, with several members leaving and being replaced over the years. GNR got back together in 2016 to perform at the Coachella Music Festival and tour, even though Axl broke his foot in rehearsals and had to sit for many of the shows.
Axl Rose’s voice is one of the most iconic in music. It’s so iconic that he was asked to replace AC/DC’s Brian Johnson after he left the band in 2016 due to hearing issues. Here, Axl performs with AC/DC at the Olympic Stadium in London.
