The 38th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards brought the best and brightest in Hollywood to the beach in Santa Monica, California on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Comedian Hasan Minhaj hosted the annual event, where women dominated the first-ever gender-neutral acting categories: ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once‘s Michelle Yeoh nabbed Best Lead Performance, with her co-star Stephanie Hsu winning Best Breakthrough Performance, while ‘Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson landed Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted series and ‘The Bear‘s Ayo Edebiri took home Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series.
‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ was the big winner of the night, winning seven out of its eight nominations. The small film won Best Feature, and along with Yeoh and Hsu, their co-star Ke Huy Quan won best supporting performance, beating out their other co-star Jamie Lee Curtis!
Cate Blanchett, Regina Hall, and Dwyane Wade & Gabrielle Union, and more also made an appearance at the star-studded fete.
