All hail the queens of soccer! The United States Women’s National Team took a well-earned victory lap on July 10, as the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions were honored with a ticker tape parade in New York City! The USWNT – who won their second consecutive World Cup and their fourth, overall – made their way down to the southern tip of Manhattan at the start of the parade. Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, Rose Lavelle, and the rest of the world champs traveled through the ‘Canyon Of Heroes’ as confetti rained down upon them. Thousands of fans gathered along the streets to cheer for their heroes, and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio presented the team with keys to the city. This was the first ticker tape parade in NYC since….the last time the USWNT won the World Cup. Since the team – specifically Rapinoe – indicated that they wouldn’t make a trip to the White House, even if President Donald Trump invited them, this NYC celebration was likely THE biggest welcome the USWNT was going to get. Congratulations!

As the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup was raging on, another battle was going down behind the scenes. The US Women’s National Team sued the US Soccer Federation, accusing the organization of gender-based pay discrimination. This sign at the NYC parade supports the team’s pursuit for equal pay.

Megan Rapinoe takes a moment to reflect on her accomplishments in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Megan’s ‘arms-outstretched’ celebration after her goals in the knockout stage became a meme, and those goals helped her win the tournament’s Golden Boot.

Megan Rapinoe gives something to all her critics out there while posing on her victory parade float, a glass of champagne in her hand. She was criticized for her celebrations during the World Cup and the Americans earned a reputation of being “arrogant.” Clearly, this REALLY bothers Megan.
