Yes, David experienced several health issues over the years. In 2018, reports circulated that he had been hospitalized after suffering two strokes, based on a post from an unofficial website. However, members of his band later clarified that he had not suffered a stroke and that his symptoms were caused by an inner ear infection.

He also faced other health challenges later in life, including a COVID-19 hospitalization in 2021 that required oxygen treatment.

David  died on April 29, 2026, at the age of 86. He passed away in a hospital after spending time in intensive care, but an official cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

Yes, David was married six times. At the time of his death, he was married to his sixth wife, Kimberly Hastings Coe, who confirmed the news publicly

David’s personal life often mirrored his larger-than-life persona. He was married six times and at one point joked to  The Oklahoman, “I’m a polygamist! I’m a Mormon, I’ve got seven wives and five kids!”
