Kelsea Ballerini made headlines when she split up from Morgan Evans after almost five years of marriage in August 2022. Over a year after the split, Kelsea, 30, opened up about whether she has any regrets after divorcing Morgan, 38, in a new interview with Nylon, published on Tuesday, October 24. She also opened up about the reactions from fans over her breakup.
The “Blindsided” singer admitted that while the divorce was crazy, she still knows she made the right call. “This time last year, my life felt very out of control. A bit messy. I just felt in the weeds in a lot of things,” she told the outlet. “I can truly, from my guts, say I regret literally nothing. I really don’t.”
Besides the divorce itself, Kelsea also spoke about the public reaction to her split, including that she was “scared,” about some of the comments she received telling her that she “didn’t try hard enough” to make the marriage work. Still, she knew that her experience could probably help others going through the same thing. “I knew that there are also a lot of girls in their 20s that got married really young that are probably experiencing similar feelings,” she said. “I also watched my parents get divorced when I was 12, and I was very interested in normalizing that conversation in my own way. Taking any kind of stigma or ick around that topic away, especially for young women, is really beautiful.”
Kelsea and Morgan’s divorce served as the inspiration for her EP Rolling Up the Welcome Mat. The split led to some drama between the two country stars. Kelsea had opened up about details about their split in an interview on Call Her Daddy, which Morgan responded to by claiming that she was “saying things that aren’t reality and that leave out what really happened.”
Aside from her divorce, Kelsea also discussed a bit about her romance with Chase Stokes, 31, who she’s been dating since December 2022. “He is the first person I’ve been in a relationship with that I feel like is not my complete opposite,” she said.
