Singer Aloe Blacc was revealed as the Mushroom after coming in second place on The Masked Singer season 4. The Sun won season 4 and unmasked as LeAnn Rimes. HollywoodLife spoke EXCLUSIVELY with Aloe after the finale and revealed that he was just as shocked as the rest of us when LeAnn was unmasked as the Sun.
“I had no idea that LeAnn Rimes was competing on this show, and it’s pretty interesting, too,” Aloe said to HollywoodLife. “We actually had a moment in the studio together where we recorded a duet for a Christmas album [the song “The Spirit of Christmas”]. It was fun to see her again and to share this moment.”
During his run on The Masked Singer, Aloe noted that his daughter, Mandela, was his inspiration for doing the show. After he was unmasked, the singer admitted that his daughter still didn’t know her dad was the Mushroom.
“My daughter has seen some of the episodes, and she’s heard my voice and even mentioned that she can hear my voice, but she has no idea that it’s me,” Aloe said. He added that he was going to watch the finale with her the day after the finale because “it was a bit too late for her to stay up to watch” the original airing.
“I think the big finale is the best place to find out who I am and be unmasked,” he continued. “I didn’t want to spoil the fun. So far, it’s been a lot of fun seeing the kids watch the show every week, and they don’t know who a lot of the celebrities are anyway. I think they’ll have a lot of fun seeing the reveal.”
Aloe’s choice in being the Mushroom and donning that gorgeous costume was “inspired by my daughter when she plays dress-up with her princess dresses and dances around the house.” He told HollywoodLife that he also chose a “costume that totally doesn’t look like what I would wear.” The “Hold On Tight” singer certainly stumped us when he was masked! The Masked Singer will return for season 5 in 2021.
