The season 7 premiere of Scandal was all kinds of amazing, but there was one very important person missing: Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III. The episode focused primarily on Olivia (Kerry Washington) as she navigated her new roles as Mellieās (Bellamy Young) chief of staff and head of B613. Fitz is out of the White House, so I was anxious to see where the show would take his character. Heās also moved to Vermont to work on his presidential library. His absence during the premiere was definitely felt.
There was a nod to the very first episode of Scandal when Olivia looks longingly at Fitz on TV. The scene in the season 7 premiere featured Olivia doing the exact same thing, proving once again that Olivia and Fitz are far from over. Yes, I ship #Olitz hard. Donāt @ me.
What about the second episode of the final season? Well, the photos ABC has released donāt feature Fitz at all. Tony Goldwyn, 57, is photographed as the director of the episode, but not as Fitz. Can Olivia just take a trip to Vermont soon? Fitz has made some bad decisions over the years, but we still love him for it. Tony couldnāt say much about Fitzās role in Scandalās final season, but he did tell press at Esquireās September Issue āMavericks of Styleā event that creator Shonda Rhimes wants to ātry some new stuff and take these characters that weāve really gotten to know so well and explore them more deeply.ā Will we see a whole new side to Fitz in these final episodes?
Scandal airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
