“It was March 2015. I had been in a bad place for a while and I didn’t see myself getting out of it unless I made a change,” Zayn, 23, wrote in his memoir Zayn. “My relationship with my fiancee, Perrie, was breaking down. To make matters worse, there were so many crazy stories flying around in the newspapers about us, and it felt like such an invasion of privacy, it made me just want to disappear for a while.”

Zayn and Perrie Edwards, 23, called off their engagement in Aug. 2015. The couple started dating in 2012, and cheating reports repeatedly rocked their romance. While Zayn was still with One Direction in March 2015, Swedish model Martina Olsson claimed that Zayn had allegedly cheated on Perrie with her while he was in Thailand.
Zayn’s memoir is one of the few times he’s opened up about his past relationship with Perrie. He’s now happy and in love with Gigi Hadid, 21. The Little Mix singer has been a little more forthcoming about their romance, revealing that Zayn dumped her over text.
The singer also confesses in the book that he had an eating disorder during his days with One Direction. He admitted he would go two to three days without eating anything. He left the band in March 2015. Even though he was plagued with anxiety while he was in 1D, he noted in his book that it was more “manageable” when he was in the band. Zayn still battles anxiety, but he definitely has a better grip on it now than he did then. Stay strong, Zayn!
