So crazy! Irish golf star Rory McIlroy, 27, was in for quite a surprise during the 2016 Ryder Cup on Oct. 1 when a crazed American fan began verbally attacking the golf star. Rory was just walking, making his way to the next hole, when suddenly an American spectator began yelling at him, screaming, “suck a d–k!” Rory, upon hearing this, turned and walked toward the man. Fortunately, before things escalated, the fan was promptly thrown out of the tournament grounds!

This is beyond horrible. No one should ever have to face this kind of abuse, and we are in shock that this American fan said these things to Rory. After the incident, Rory stopped to speak to reporters at the Cup, addressing what had happened. “Obviously it’s unfortunate because I think that 85 percent of the people are great and I love playing in America,” he said. “My girlfriend is American. But that 15 percent that is really bad, it makes them look bad. And I feel ashamed for my girlfriend, because I know how bad she feels when she hears all the things, but it is what it is. It’s as simple as that.”
We’re so proud of Rory for handling this like the pro he is, and that the fan was kicked out of the Ryder Cup. Many are speculating that the fan hurled the insults as a result of his anger at Rory for ending his engagement to Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, 26. Regardless, the fan’s attacks were completely unjustified, and we’re just happy that Rory is alright.
