Feeling like she couldn’t tell her parents face-to-face, Jamie Lynn thought it would be best to write a note and put it in her mother’s room for her to later find. And while at first, when her mom, Lynne, first found the message, she thought (or maybe more like hoped) that Jamie Lynn was joking, she soon found out this was no laughing matter.

Jamie’s father, also named Jamie, did NOT take the news very well. In fact, he was reportedly harder to win over than Lynne. “For me, the world stopped a couple seconds,” the father-of-three revealed in TLC’s Jamie Lynn Spears: When the Lights Go Out, which aired on Sunday, June 25. “It was a total shock.”

Jamie Lynn admitted things were “not great” for a while as the family struggled with how to approach this new development. But while most teen pregnancies are stressful all on their own, Jamie was a teenage icon — with her own show, Zoey 101. In fact, the actress had already shot a season of Zoey that was finished but still had yet to air. This made dealing with her pregnancy all the more difficult as she was faced with many questions surrounding the future of both her career and the show.

“I was a child then,” Jamie Lynn admitted. “I needed to grow up.” And grow up she did! The star decided to keep the baby and insisted on the TV special that any other option was not even considered. “At the end of the day I knew I had to make a decision as a young girl myself to do something that I could sleep with every night,” Jamie revealed. “I knew deep down that I was going to have my little girl, even if I had to raise her on my own, and that’s what I did.”
Knowing this was her plan, she “hid for three weeks in the house with two security [guards] while the story went out,” she remembered. “It was a real scandal situation at the time.” But now, Jamie is happily married to Jamie Watson — yes, another Jamie — while she considers her daughter, Maddie Aldridge, 8, her best friend. Aw!
