Zendaya shared her thoughts on some of the Disney alums and where they’re at now to Complex magazine, as some like Miley have been ridiculed for the transitions they’ve made from being part of Disney. When discussing the possibility of having a “Miley moment” herself, Zendaya made it clear that she has a plan to not let that happen. “In order to avoid those problems just be yourself from the beginning and be honest with the world, because that’s the only thing you can do,” she told the mag. “There will be no surprises….I’m not suddenly going to be like woo, crazy.” Wait a minute, did she just call Miley crazy?!
While Zendaya didn’t bluntly attribute craziness to Miley, her response certainly sounds like she thinks Miley hasn’t exactly moved on from her Hannah Montana days in a positive way. Plus, she kind of hinted that Miley might not have been her true self back then! But throwing shade probably wasn’t Zendaya’s intention, as she admitted that the pressures of being a child star can really mess with some people.
“A lot of them were forced into being role models and they had to pretend to be something that they didn’t feel matched up with who they were,” she suggested. “And that’s because they started really, really young. So you’ve got to realize when you’re really young you don’t know who you are yet. And as soon as you figure it out, you’ve already been forced to become something that you didn’t really know you signed up for.”
Although Zendaya didn’t necessarily specify Miley in any of her comments, they can apply to the path Miley took to from Hannah Montana to her current Dead Petz stage. Even if she had Miley in mind during her interview, Zendaya made sure to defend her ability to express herself!
“Everyone has their different ways of learning and growing and finding out who they are, and you can’t fault people for that,” she said. “Again, I think with all the prior Disney stars, at least you can say they are themselves now.” Considering Miley isn’t afraid to bare it all whether she’s on stage, in a nude magazine shoot, or posting on social media, we’d definitely say she’s being herself!
As for Zendaya, she promises she’s to “keep it real” as she continues her time with Disney and beyond, with the goal of remaining a good role model at the forefront of her career. “I’m not pretending to be something that I’m not, because like he said, people are going to be disappointed when they find out who you are, because it’s not going to be what you presented to the world….I’m a good kid and that’s all.”
