To get a flawless glasses beauty look like Selena’s, celebrity makeup artist Lisa Eldridge suggests that you start by determining the effect your frames have on your face. How you execute your eye makeup will largely depend on whether you’re farsighted and your glasses magnify your eyes, or nearsighted and your glasses make your eyes appear smaller. Either way, Lisa suggests using a light reflecting concealer like Clinique Airbrush to counteract the shadow that your glasses can create under your eyes.
If you are wearing foundation, Lisa recommends that you use as little as possible on your nose to prevent those annoying red marks your glasses tend to leave. She also suggests applying foundation to the rest of your face, then using the excess makeup left on your brush on the nose to avoid over-applying. If you don’t use a foundation brush, Stila Cosmetics’ pro makeup artist Sarah Lucero suggests using a makeup sponge, like the Beauty Blender, to blot away any excess foundation after the fact. This will create that event, airbrush finish that Selena has in her photo.
As for your eye makeup, Sarah recommends that you start by curling your eyelashes with an eyelash curler, focusing on the root, so as to keep them from hitting up against your lenses. Next, apply one coat of mascara from root to tip as you normally would, but with the second coat, focusing on just the roots. “If the tips of your lashes are as heavy as the base, they’ll fall straight again, hitting the glass,” she told Cosmopolitan. “Instead, wiggle the wand back and forth against the roots of the lashes, so that you have the intensity at the root, but it won’t be heavy at the tip.”
As Selena demonstrated, cat eyes are a no-fail option here, because they can be made to minimize the eyes or make them appear larger, based on the effect your glasses have on you. Either way, you should keep the intensity of the line near the lash line, but feel free to experiment with different angles and the shape of the flick. “If you go bold with the frames, go bold with the liner,” says Sarah. “That way, you’ll have enough contrast in the right areas.” If you wear rimless glasses, try a double winged line to really make an impact.
In terms of your lips, feel free to experiment with any number of shades and finishes. “A gorgeous bold eye with boxy glasses and matte, powdery bold lips is chic and modern,” adds Sarah. “A hot pink lipstick like Candy Yum-Yum from MAC or a true red like NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl can also be the perfect finishing touches to your overall look. No matter what you do though, be sure to blend your look meticulously,” Lisa warns. Like your eyes, your glasses will magnify your makeup, so in other words, it needs to look flawless! No pressure though.
