Patrick Dempsey & Ellen Pompeo’s Relationship Was ‘Magic’
Although the news of Derek’s death leaked online just hours before Grey’s aired on the east coast, it was still a shock to fans of the show. Thankfully, an interview with Patrick in the May 1 issue of EW is here to give you peace of mind about his surprising departure.
Towards the end of the interview Patrick is finally asked about what it was like working with his on-screen wife, Ellen, and the reporter revealed that that is the first time he started to cry while talking about leaving the show.
“It was magic. It’s beautiful,” Patrick gushed, revealing how much he truly loved working with Ellen for so long. “We’re like a married couple. It’s 10 years, and it was magic from the beginning. Chemistry right away.”
‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Derek’s Death Has Completely Ruined The Show
Believe it or not, Patrick claim that he didn’t shed a single tear on his last day of filming.
“No. I’m still processing it. This is part of the mourning process, the post ‘Grey’s’ experience,” he said.
Just knowing that their off-screen relationship was so fantastic it made him cry, but his last day didn’t, is enough to pull at your heart strings, isn’t it? It turns out they were perfect both on and off of our TV sets. Ugh!
What Did Patrick Take From The ‘Grey’s’ Set?
Usually when someone leaves a TV show after a long period of time, they take something fun from the set to remember it forever. It could be anything from an item of clothing from wardrobe, something from their on-screen apartment or office, or just a general piece of the set that no one else will miss.
So, what was Patrick’s item of choice? He didn’t have one!
“I don’t need that. I have it inside,” Patrick shared, explaining while he didn’t take a memento. “I don’t need to have anything material to make me remember [my experience].”
Aw, bummer. I’m sure fans would have loved to hear that he kept his white lab coat!
