‘Beyond The Reach’ — Jeremy Irvine Interview
In Beyond the Reach, Ben is one of the best tracking guides in the Mojave Desert and is assigned to take Madec, an extremely successful businessman, out for a hunting trip. However, a shocking turn of events pits Madec and Ben against each other, and Ben is forced to try and stay alive in the blistering desert heat.
HollywoodLife.com got the chance to speak with Jeremy about the filming experience out in scorching New Mexico.
“It was certainly the most brutal, physical film that I’ve done,” Jeremy told HollywoodLife.com. “It was an incredibly tough shoot… But at the same time I was getting to film with Michael Douglas. Just hanging out with him in the desert, as harsh and hardcore as it is, is also one of the most beautiful places I think I’ve filmed. At the end of the day, being on a cliff top in the middle of nowhere and sitting next to Michael watching the sun go down was kind of magical.”
One of the most eyebrow-raising facts about the film is that Jeremy is shirtless — and in just his underwear — for practically the entire film. Nope, this is not a joke. For some, this would be a little daunting, but Jeremy took on the task with ease.
“I don’t really remember thinking about it all that much,” he continued. “By the end of it, I was somewhat unfazed by being half-naked for most of the shoot. But, you know, British men aren’t meant to look that way. We aren’t built like that. Channign Tatum kind of ruined it for us, so now we really have to hit the gym.”
Jeremy is being modest. I’ve seen the film, and he definitely needs to give himself more credit!
Jeremy has worked with a number of A-list actors in just a few short years — Colin Firth, Ralph Fiennes, Michael. These incredible actors inspire Jeremy to keep pushing the limits as an actor.
“There’s something that they all have in common which is this real excitement for what they’re doing and a love for what they’re doing. Michael is just so excited and passionate on set. He clearly loves filmmaking, and that’s why he’s head such a wonderful career. It’s certainly something I found very inspiring.”
‘Beyond The Reach’: Jeremy Irvine On ‘Living On The Edge’
Jeremy has a knack for grueling roles — Beyond the Reach and The Railway Man — but he prefers it that way. To him, being a little “terrified” is a good thing.
“Michael was just saying he likes that feeling of flying without a net and really kind of living on the edge. I love that feeling of being kind of terrified and living on the seat of your pants.”
Well, proves it with Beyond the Reach. His performance alongside Michael was intense and compelling. Jeremy really went for role, and it paid off in spades. Be on the lookout for Jeremy. He’s the next big thing.
Beyond the Reach is now in theaters.
